Metro's Artists Take the Stage

By Heaven Prince Gillis
May 1st marked the 2015 Slam Poetry event at the Metropolitan High School, where brave poets stepped up to the mic and gave the audiences a great show. There were a lot of participants including two guest poets and a Metro alumnus. The host and founder, Ms. Castillo, had a few words to say “I believe poetry and writing can motivate students and poetry can innovate students to look into themselves and inspire other students to be young writers. This also is a great way to raise  awareness for minorities and their talents as young writers.”
Being bold enough to go on stage in front of a auditorium is a big deal that requires inspiration: “the motive is to express yourself” Ashley Vargas (11th) and “feelings that appeared to me” Iyan (9th). On stage Naftaly Amanin (10) was ready “I felt nothing...I felt like it was just me in the auditorium” said Naftaly.
The biggest shock was Heaven Prince Gillis asking Jackia Rice to prom through a poem, “the cussing was shocking” says Joslaine Villavizar (10th)  “ and that asking the girl to prom one”
“ I found it inspiring “ Belizza Dela Cruz
Students and staff alike felt the event was extremely successful.
